Every challenge becomes a little lighter when the entire community pitches in to help. After a series of typhoons that battered many parts of the Philippines, the recent Typhoon Ulysses was especially devastating to Filipinos in Metro Manila. The focus quickly shifted as the hashtag #CagayanNeedsHelp quickly trended on social media platforms like Twitter. Typhoon Ulysses stormed the province of Cagayan in the wee hours of November 14, 2020, with most photos and videos posted pitch-black due to the blackout with only cries for help audible.
It’s times like these when social media shines as it brought much attention to our Cagayan brothers and sisters in need. Calls for donation sprouted left and right, with many wanting to help in any way they can.
It’s why acts of kindness to our fellow countrymen will always be welcome news. Great examples of this are two of our very own dealerships that recently extended help to their respective local government units (LGUs).
Last November 19, 2020, Toyota Tuguegarao generously donated 250 relief packs to the city of Tuguegarao and another 250 relief packs to the province of Cagayan, as assistance to the families affected by Typhoon Ulysses. Each relief pack contained one-thousand pesos worth of canned goods, noodles, bread, and other essentials.
The relief packs were personally handed by Toyota Tuguegarao personnel led by Toyota Isabela Vice President and General Manager, Mr. Joel Canlas to Provincial Administrator Mr. Darwin Sacramed and Chief of Staff Atty. Ma. Rosario Mamba-Villaflor.
According to Mr. Canlas, Toyota Tuguegarao’s donation was their way of showing concern and extending help to their fellow Cagayan citizens who were gravely affected by the strong floods.
Toyota Isabela, Inc. likewise also lent a helping hand to the local government unit of Isabela City with their donation of 200 relief packs of essentials worth P1000 each.
The Filipino spirit of malasakit shines bright during times of crisis. It gives us great pride that our local partners remain proactive in serving their local communities.
While life may continue to have its ups and downs, the Filipino spirit has shown time and time again to overcome hardships when we band together and look out for each other.
